NEW DELHI: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Akhilesh Yadav is set to join Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Agra on Sunday. This collaboration comes as a result of the successful seat-sharing arrangement between the Congress and the SP for the upcoming elections.

Akhilesh Yadav had made it clear that his participation in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was contingent upon a mutual agreement on the distribution of seats between the two parties. With the accord now in place, his presence alongside Rahul Gandhi is expected to symbolise a unified front against the incumbent political forces.

The seat-sharing agreement designates Congress to contest 17 seats in Uttar Pradesh, while SP, in coalition with other smaller parties within the INDIA bloc, will vie for the remaining 63 seats. The synergy between the two political heavyweights reflects a strategic move aimed at countering the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) influence in the state.

The joint participation of Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi in Agra resonates with a similar scenario seven years ago when both leaders conducted a 12 km road show in the city on February 3, 2017. The symbolism of their collaborative efforts in Agra underscores the historical context of their political alliance.

The Nyay Yatra, scheduled to resume on Sunday, will witness the presence of both leaders as it traverses through Moradabad, Sambhal, Aligarh, Hathras, and Agra. This strategic move to include Western Uttar Pradesh in the route comes amidst ongoing alliance talks between Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and the BJP.

Anil Chaudhary, West UP President of Kisan Congress, highlighted the significance of this joint venture, stating, “The coming together of Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav will be a repeat of a similar scene seven years ago in Agra itself when both Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav covered a 12 km road show in Agra on February 3, 2017.”
