NEW DELHI: In a major boost to Uttar Pradesh’s industrial expansion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday laid the foundation of Amrit Bottlers’ new ₹700-crore Coca-Cola bottling plant in Gorakhpur.
The project, spearheaded by the Lucknow-based Ladhani family’s SLMG Group, marks yet another milestone after similar industrial ventures in Amethi and Ayodhya.

The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony, held at Sector 27 of the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Area (GIDA), signals the arrival of Coca-Cola manufacturing to eastern UP. Spread across 40 acres, the plant is designed to produce 2,900 bottles per minute, lifting SLMG’s total capacity in the state to 3.46 crore bottles per day. This facility will be the company’s 10th unit across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Officials said the plant will generate more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, benefiting not only workers but also ancillary industries such as logistics, packaging, and retail. SLMG Group already supports nearly 79,000 jobs across its existing operations.
Speaking at the ceremony, CM Yogi Adityanath praised Amrit Bottlers for strengthening the state’s industrial base. “With projects like these, Gorakhpur is emerging as an industrial hub. This investment aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s policies to attract global brands, create jobs, and achieve sustainable development,” he said.
Rakesh Ladhani, Director of Amrit Bottlers Pvt Ltd, thanked the state government for its support. “This Gorakhpur plant will enhance Coca-Cola’s supply chain while uplifting local economies. By generating jobs and adopting sustainable practices, we aim to contribute to the state’s vision of economic prosperity,” he said.

SLMG Beverages has announced plans to invest up to USD 1 billion by 2030 to expand across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The company already runs plants in Lucknow, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Chata, Trishundi, and Unnao, and the Gorakhpur facility will further consolidate its footprint in the region.

Industry experts say the project will transform Gorakhpur’s socio-economic profile, positioning it as a new industrial hub in eastern Uttar Pradesh and reinforcing the state’s growing appeal as a destination for large-scale investment.
