The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will launch a Kooda Virodhi Abhiyan across Delhi, exposing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-run Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for failing to remove mounts from three landfill sites in the national capital.

“When people of Delhi step out of their homes, they expect the roads to be cleaned and garbage-free. Delhi is the nation’s capital and the people have to face embarrassment when they invite relatives and friends to their house,” AAP Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai said.

The Delhi environment minister said, “Delhiites gave them multiple chances to run MCD and set a record of work done for their welfare. However, the BJP has an infamous record for itself of having garbage spilt all over Delhi.”

“Earlier there were ward councillors in the MCD and now the MCD is under L-G’s control, which was also a move to postpone the elections. The top brass of the BJP took charge of revamping the MCD, but the reality is that the condition of Delhi has become worse,” he added.

Putting the onus on the MCD, the Delhi cabinet minister said, “Every MLA in Delhi is doing their best for the development of their constituency. But they are in limbo on the issue of garbage. Hence, we have decided to start a statewide mission from September 14 to October 14 against the BJP’s MCD for turning Delhi into kooda-kooda. We will not let Delhi remain in this condition. Either the BJP will have to remove the garbage in Delhi or they will have to remove themselves from the MCD. There is no midway. ”

He added that AAP will lay bare the reality of BJP-ruled MCD’s garbage mountains in front of the public. The AAP MLAs will show the reality of the Ghazipur landfill on September 14, Okhla landfill on September 15 and Bhalswa landfill on September 16, Rai said.

Commenting on the same, AAP chief spokesperson and MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “The situation of garbage in Delhi was always bad, but it has drastically worsened over the last six months. MCD shut down countless dhalaos without any plan of action and opened private shops on the sites, forcing people to throw garbage on streets and drains.”

AAP MLA Atishi Marlena added, “Going by BJP-ruled MCD’s current pace, these landfills won’t be cleared within the next 200 years either. It will take at least 27 years to clear them if they stop taking in garbage there. AAP will expose the debacles of the BJP’s 15-year-long tenure in front of the people of Delhi; we are inviting everyone to come along and see the landfills themselves.”
