NEW DELHI: On Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a chargesheet against six people and a report concerning a Child in Conflict with the Law (CCL) to the Special Judge at the CBI Court in Guwahati. This is related to the Manipur Viral Video Case.
The CBI initiated the case at the behest of the Manipur Government and following a notification from the Centre. Subsequently, the agency assumed responsibility for the investigation that had been originally reported to the NSK Police Station.
It was claimed that on May 4, a crowd of around 900 to 1,000 people, armed with advanced weaponry, invaded B. Phainom village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi District. They engaged in acts of house vandalism, arson, property theft, physical assaults on villagers, perpetrated homicides, and subjected women to sexual assault.

Two family members of one of the victims were also killed in the incident. The CBI investigation revealed that the accused were involved in the said incident.
On Monday, a formal charge sheet was submitted to the Special Judge at the CBI Court in Guwahati, as mandated by the directives of the Supreme Court. Ongoing investigations include the identification of additional people implicated in the crimes, as well as an exploration of various other aspects of the case.

“The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian Law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial,” the CBI said.
