Chandigarh, September 19 — The Punjab Government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has intensified relief efforts in flood-hit regions, ensuring that health and safety remain the top priority. In just 24 hours, the number of people receiving treatment at medical camps surged from 51,000 on September 16 to 1.5 lakh on September 17 — a 194% increase.
Officials said the sharp rise reflects the state’s immediate ground-level response to the crisis. “This shows our commitment that no affected family is left without care,” Chief Minister Mann said, directing the Health and Family Welfare Department to ensure uninterrupted health services in flood-hit areas.
Special Campaign Against Post-Flood Diseases
The government launched a statewide health campaign on September 14 to tackle post-flood health risks. The drive focuses on providing door-to-door primary healthcare, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, and children. Plans drawn at the state level were quickly implemented in villages, leading to record numbers of beneficiaries within days.
So far, 2,303 villages have hosted health camps. Teams of doctors and health workers are treating patients for common post-flood illnesses such as fever, diarrhea, and skin infections, while also distributing medicines and raising awareness.
Holistic Approach: People and Animals
In addition to human healthcare, the government has extended services to livestock. So far, 14,780 animals have been treated and 48,535 vaccinated free of cost. Special arrangements for safe disposal of dead animals are being carried out to prevent contamination of water and soil.
“This campaign is about safeguarding both human and animal health,” a senior health official said. “We are adopting a holistic approach to prevent further crises.”
Preventive Measures and Ground Action
Chief Minister Mann personally announced that door-to-door checkups and mosquito control spraying are underway. “Public safety is our first priority,” he said, emphasizing the administration’s active role at every level.
Residents in rural areas say these efforts have brought much-needed reassurance. The rapid jump from 51,000 to 1.5 lakh treated patients in just a day has been hailed as proof that the Punjab Government not only planned but also executed relief measures with urgency and strength.
