NEW DELHI: The New Indian Team got the opportunity to interact with Saumraj, IGL of the IQOO 8-BIT, where he spoke about his team’s mindset, motivation, and what lies ahead in BMPS 2025.

 

“We could have played basics, but we still tried something new and things are not working out,” said Saumraj, acknowledging the team’s experimental strategies that didn’t pay off in the opening matches. On day 1, which was held on 5 June, 2025.  At the end, the team was on the 12th position, with zero chicken dinner and a total of 31 points.

Representing India at the World Stage: A Personal Mission

 

Saumraj, who previously had a shot at representing India on the global stage, shared an moment about missing the opportunity due to technical issues.

 

“My dream was to represent my country in the world championships. I went there once but didn’t get the opportunity. And it was all our fault, because of the passports.”

 

With the BMPS winner securing a direct slot at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saumraj now sees a second chance, this time fully prepared.

Addressing the perception that BMPS 2025’s team lineup lacks star power and is “easy,” Saumraj offered a strong rebuttal.

 

“The teams here have put in years of hard work and they are currently India’s top 16 teams.”

 

He underlined the competitive nature of the tournament and dismissed any notion that the absence of T1 Teams makes the lobby easy.

 

“It’s such a prestigious tournament with a high prize pool and high stakes, everyone came here with a certain mindset. The competition is intense.”

 

Saumraj also noted the shift in dynamics compared to previous editions of BMPS:

 

“There were underdog and star teams in the last BMPS. Now, these are pure underdog teams. The lobby is completely different and we’re figuring it out.”

 

In a nutshell, Saumraj emphasised how he is all set to use this opportunity and looking forward to a great Day 2 at BMPS 2025.
