Yoga: Diljit Dosanjh’s secret to coping with daily stress

NEW DELHI: Yoga, an ancient practice from India known for its holistic benefits for the mind and body, has found a steadfast advocate in singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh. Many celebrities include yoga in their daily fitness routines, and Dosanjh recently emphasized its importance in his life. Addressing a crowd at one of his concerts, he shared his personal experiences with the pressures and tensions of daily life and how yoga has helped him cope.

 

In the viral video that Dosanjh posted on his Instagram account, he candidly spoke about the myriad challenges he faces every day. He said, “Mere ko jitni tension roz aati hai main bata bhi nahi sakta aapko kya kya tension aati hai roz” (Nobody has an idea about the tensions I face daily). Despite these challenges, he believes that troubles are an inevitable part of life. However, he underscored that yoga is a powerful tool that can help manage these stresses effectively.

 

The New Indian spoke to several yoga experts about Diljit Dosanjh’s video on yoga, focusing on its relevance in today’s age of rising AQI levels. While poor air quality is a major issue, many health problems can be alleviated through yoga. The experts emphasized how yoga can not only address these concerns but also align and transform one’s life.

Former journalist and social media manager Khushboo Shukla is a yoga teacher in Delhi and also a fan of Diljit Dosanjh. “I am actually moved by Diljit’s dedication to promoting Yoga in his house-full concerts.”

 

On the remark by Diljit on ‘Car Alignment’ Khushboo said, “Think of yoga as the alignment of your inner being—just like how a car needs proper wheel alignment to run smoothly. If the wheels are misaligned, the car might drift to one side, wear out unevenly, or require extra effort to drive. Similarly, when our mind, body, and soul are out of sync, life feels chaotic. We face unnecessary stress, fatigue, and disconnection from ourselves and then Yoga brings this alignment back.”

“The next pandemic is gonna be the mental health pandemic… and it is necessary for us to brace ourselves! Yoga can make us physically, mentally, and emotionally stable and strong. Joining online yoga classes is a great option for people who do not have time to step out in the morning during rush hours. Corporate offices promoting mental health workshops and Yoga breaks in the office is also a great initiative!” she added.

 

Khushboo was teaching Yoga in 2020 after she took a break from her professional career and now she is a full-time Yoga trainer. “Yoga is not just exercise and I resonate with him and his journey. He (Diljit Dosanjh) also started doing Yoga during COVID-19 in 2020. The same thing happened to me also. I used to be a journalist and left everything and I started doing yoga and now I’m teaching people” she stated.

 

In the viral video, Diljit said, “Musibate toh ayengi, tension toh ayengi life mein. Mere ko jitni tension roz aati hai main bata bhi nahi sakta aapko kya kya tension aati hai roz. Toh jitna bada kaam utni badi tension” (Problems will come, tension will be there in life. The tension that I face every day, I can’t even tell you what all I face daily. So the bigger the work, the bigger the tension). On this Shukla said “When you are doing Pranayam, then you focus on your breath. Your breath is directly connected to the life force energy that you have and the higher the life force energy is there in your body, the better you feel.”

30 years old, Delhi-based Yoga instructor Kanchan Kumari who has taught Yoga in LBSNAA in Mussoorie to future IAS to have a similar point of view in terms of Yoga. She defines Yoga as a complete cessation of mental fluctuations. “When there are fewer fluctuations in your mind you are more focused towards your goal and will be able to work effectively to achieve your goal. Yoga encourages self-awareness and mindfulness and the mindfulness aspect of yoga can improve concentration and focus, beneficial for both personal and professional pursuits” she said.

 

Kanchan had trained retired IAS professionals as well as joint civil-military personnel and she also pressurized on the current scenario in the running life where nobody has time to do Yoga or any physical exercise. She said, “The pressures of modern life can lead to significant stress and anxiety and Yoga provides effective techniques for relaxation and stress reduction, helping individuals maintain mental clarity and emotional stability.”

 

 

Dosanjh’s heartfelt message resonated with many, as he highlighted that yoga’s benefits are not limited to physical fitness but extend to mental well-being. He encouraged everyone, regardless of their profession, to incorporate yoga into their routines to experience its transformative effects. His endorsement comes as a reminder of yoga’s enduring relevance and its ability to provide peace and stability amidst life’s chaos. As more people look for ways to manage stress, Dosanjh’s testimony serves as a powerful reminder of the ancient practice’s modern-day benefits.
