Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, clad in his white and gold ceremonial robes, made a poignant return to Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid, marking his first visit since August 2019 after allegedly enduring over four years of house detention.

Emotion overwhelmed him as he ascended the pulpit to commence his sermon, where the Hurriyat chairman affirmed his commitment to pursuing a peaceful resolution for the people’s issues.

Drawing parallels to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Mirwaiz expressed his alignment with the PM’s perspective that this era should not be defined by war.
