NEW DELHI: U.S. Vice President JD Vance, joined by his wife Usha Vance and their three children, commenced his four-day diplomatic tour of India with a visit to the iconic Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in New Delhi on Monday morning.
Shortly after touching down at Palam Airbase, the American delegation was received by Indian Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Vice President Vance was presented with a ceremonial Guard of Honour, officially launching his first visit to the country in his current role.
Dressed in Indian ethnic wear — the boys in traditional kurta-pyjamas and their youngest child in an Anarkali-style ensemble paired with a decorative jacket — the Vance family explored the sprawling temple complex for nearly 55 minutes.
Temple spokesperson Radhika Shukla shared that Vice President Vance admired the artistry and craftsmanship of the structure and offered prayers focused on peace and harmony across the globe.
In a message shared through the temple’s official X account, Vance expressed heartfelt appreciation for the reception and the visual grandeur of the temple. “Grateful for the warmth and grace extended to my family. The care and accuracy reflected in this sacred space are a tribute to India’s spirit. Our children were especially delighted. May blessings be with all,” he noted.
Vance’s trip, scheduled from April 21 to 24, includes stops in Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra. He is set to travel to Jaipur on Tuesday and Agra the following day.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that the visit is expected to strengthen the India–U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, with discussions spanning key pillars of bilateral cooperation.
