NEW DELHI: Jyoti Malhotra, a 33-year-old travel vlogger from Hisar, Haryana, known for her YouTube channel ‘Travel With Jo’, has been arrested on charges of espionage for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence officials.

Malhotra was apprehended by the Civil Lines police in Hisar on May 17. Authorities have charged her under the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for endangering India’s sovereignty and integrity by transmitting confidential information to foreign entities .
Alleged Connections with Pakistani Officials
Investigations reveal that Malhotra had established contact with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish, an official at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi. She reportedly met Rahim while applying for a visa in 2023 and subsequently traveled to Pakistan at least twice. During these visits, she allegedly met with Pakistani intelligence operatives, including individuals named Shakir and Rana Shahbaz. Malhotra confessed to saving Shakir’s contact under the alias ‘Jat Randhawa’ to avoid suspicion and maintained communication through platforms like WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Telegram .

A video posted by Malhotra detailing her journey to Pakistan has surfaced as critical evidence, highlighting her interactions and raising questions about her activities during the trip . Authorities are scrutinizing her digital communications and social media content to ascertain the extent of the information shared and potential collaborators.

Malhotra’s arrest is part of a broader crackdown on espionage activities linked to Pakistan. Recently, a Pakistani official at the High Commission was expelled on similar charges. Malhotra is among six individuals from Punjab and Haryana arrested in connection with this espionage network .
