Top Lashkar Commander killed in Srinagar encounter

SRINAGAR: In an intense encounter in Srinagar’s Khanyar area, security forces killed a Pakistani- terrorist identified as Usman, a commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), on Saturday. The encounter left four security personnel—two CRPF officers and two police officers—wounded. They were promptly taken to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital, where their condition was reported as stable.

 

 

The Let issued a statement on Usman’s death on social media, “After 20 years of courageously fighting on the battlefield of jihad against the occupying Indian forces, Commander Usman Bhai embraced martyrdom in the Srinagar operation. “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him, we return.”

The firefight erupted in Srinagar’s Khanyar area early Saturday morning when security teams on receiving credible information began a search operation at dawn. Inspector General of Police Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, confirmed that the operation has been successfully concluded.

According to Birdi, Usman’s role in the murder of Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani, who was fatally wounded by a LeT terrorist during a cricket game at Eidgah in October 2023, has come to light, and further inquiries are underway. Wani succumbed to his injuries in December 2023 at AIIMS Delhi, leaving behind his pregnant wife.
