Top Lashkar commander including 3 terrorists killed in Kulgam encounter

SRINAGAR: Three terrorists were eliminated during an encounter with security forces in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday. Among them was Basit Dar, an active Resistance Front (TRF) member, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Dar, a wanted militant with a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head, was involved in over 18 cases of killing police officers and civilians, according to the Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir.

Security forces initiated a search operation in Kulgam’s Redwani area late Monday after receiving intelligence about militant presence. The operation escalated into an encounter lasting until Tuesday.

Dar, classified as an ‘A’ category terrorist, was killed during the operation. Jammu and Kashmir Police determine terrorist categories like A+, A, B, and C based on factors like nationality, training, operational history, and weapon possession.

Meanwhile, security forces have heightened search operations in Poonch and Rajouri districts to locate militants responsible for Saturday’s attack on an IAF convoy, which resulted in the death of a corporal.
