MUMBAIAbhijeet Bhattacharya, the heartthrobs of 90s and 2000s, has been very open about his views on nationalism, relations with Pakistan and inviting Pakistani artists to work in the Bollywood industry.

In an interview with The New Indian Executive Editor Rohan Dua, the Kanpuriya man shares his views about Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He expresses his displeasure with CM Yogi for suspending ‘Yash Bharti’ honor bestowed upon him by Yadav. Excerpts from the interview:

Rohan Dua: Since you are from Uttar Pradesh, rank Akhilesh Yadav, Yogi Adiyanath and Mayawati in the order of 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya: This will become a big controversy. Both Akhilesh Yadav and Mamta Banerjee know very well what my ideology is. The biggest honor of UP was given to me when Akhilesh Yadav was the CM. Rich cash and monthly scholarship, which I didn’t even need, was given to me.

Adityanath stopped it when he came to power. Just see once whose honor are you taking away. I am the biggest nationalist and they have stopped mine. Ask them this question.

The BJP government hasn’t given me any Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. But even Mamta Banerjee has said “Abhijeet, we are proud of you. Not only Bengal but also the whole nation is proud of you.”

Even though our ideologies are just opposite and still she has given ‘Bangasree’. I don’t think there is any other place than Bengal which has such rich music and I have been honored with all the respected awards of the state.

And our (BJP) government gives honor to paid nationalists.
