Thank people of Gujarat for making AAP a national party: Sanjay Singh

Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh thanked the people of Gujarat for making it a national party. Speaking to The New Indian he said, “I am sure we will at least get 15 percent of vote share. We have breached the citadel of Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is a big achievement for us. And I thank the people of Gujarat for making us a national party.”

AAP is leading on six seats currently.

For recognition as a NATIONAL PARTY, the conditions specified are:

a 6% vote share in the last Assembly polls in each of any four states, as well as four seats in the last Lok Sabha polls; or
2% of all Lok Sabha seats in the last such election, with MPs elected from at least three states; or
recognition as a state party in at least four states.

For recognition as a STATE PARTY, any one of five conditions needs to be satisfied:

two seats plus a 6% vote share in the last Assembly election in that state; or
one seat plus a 6% vote share in the last Lok Sabha election from that state; or
3% of the total Assembly seats or 3 seats, whichever is more; or
one of every 25 Lok Sabha seats (or an equivalent fraction) from a state; or
an 8% state-wide vote share in either the last Lok Sabha or the last Assembly polls.

AAP has now MLAs in Goa, Delhi and Punjab. And now they are looking to seal a few victories in Gujarat as well helping them become a national party.

A day after the second phase of elections in Gujarat concluded, Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal had expressed confidence that the people of the state would vote for parivartan.

Earlier today, the deputy chief minister of Delhi and AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that the votes of Gujaratis will make the Aam Aadmi Party a national party. Taking to Twitter, he said that “for the first time, education and health issues are making a mark in national politics.”

On Wednesday, talking exclusively to The New Indian after registering a victory in MCD elections, AAP leader Atishi Marlena had also said if nothing else, by the end of the day on polling day AAP would become a national party.

As Congress’ stature as the principal Opposition party diminishes, AAP has been making forays outside of Delhi to mark its presence in different states in order to fill that vacuum.
