NEW DELHI: The highly anticipated fourth edition of the L&T Mumbai Open is all set to commence on February 1, 2025, at the Cricket Club of India (CCI). The WTA 125 event, organized by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA), will bring top international talent to the hard courts of Mumbai for a week of world-class tennis action.
The tournament will begin with the qualifying round on February 1, followed by the Main Draw starting February 3. The finals are scheduled for February 9 at CCI. The event is expected to showcase some of the best tennis players from across the globe, alongside a strong contingent of Indian wildcards.
The main draw is headlined by Tatjana Maria, the world No. 73, who is aiming for her fourth singles title. Maria, known for her remarkable Wimbledon semi-final appearance in 2022, has been in excellent form, having won the 2023 and 2024 Copa Colsanitas WTA 250 events in Colombia. Also taking part in the tournament is defending champion Darja Semenistaja from Latvia and the rising Filipino star Alexandra Eala, a Rafael Nadal Academy trainee. Past champions include world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, who won in 2017, and Thailand’s Luksika Kumkhum, who claimed the title in 2018.
The L&T Mumbai Open is not only a platform for international players but also serves as a key event for the development of Indian tennis. Indian wildcards have been given the opportunity to compete alongside top-tier talent, marking a significant step forward for the sport in the country.
Mr. OP Gupta, Chairman of the Organising Committee, expressed his excitement for the event, noting, “We are delighted to be back for yet another edition of the L&T Mumbai Open. This event plays a vital role in nurturing Indian tennis, and we hope this year’s edition will be even more successful.”
The tournament also has strong support from L&T, with Mr. Anup Sahay, Head of Corporate Strategy and Special Initiatives at L&T, emphasizing the company’s commitment to Indian tennis. “The L&T Mumbai Open has a rich legacy, and we are confident this edition will add another memorable chapter to that history,” he said.
