Tamilisai Soundararajan resigns as Telangana Governor

NEW DELHI: In a significant political development, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has resigned from her post, indicating her intention to contest in the upcoming general elections from Tamil Nadu. She has also stepped down as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, a position she held for three years as an additional charge.

In her resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, with copies sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tamilisai expressed her decision to return to active politics and vie for a parliamentary seat from Tamil Nadu.

Tamilisai, who previously served as the general secretary of the BJP medical wing and later as the state president of Tamil Nadu, is making a much-anticipated return to electoral politics. Despite unsuccessful attempts in previous elections, her re-entry has been highlighted as crucial by BJP sources, particularly in key constituencies like Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and South Chennai. Following consultations with national leadership, including PM Modi, the decision was made to field her in Tamil Nadu, likely in one of the Chennai constituencies.

Her resignation from the governorship of Telangana and Puducherry clears the path for her potential candidacy in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, adding a new dynamic to the political landscape in Tamil Nadu.
