Congress presidential elections seem to have all the drama usually associated with a polling process. On Wednesday, the day of the counting of votes, the supporters of one of the candidates, senior party leader Shashi Tharoor, wrote to the party’s poll panel, alleging irregularities.

The much-anticipated Congress presidential elections saw an impressive 96 per cent turnout, according to Madhusudhan Mistry, chairman of the Congress Election Authority and veteran party leader.

He also pointed out how soaring prices of LPG cylinders, petrol and diesel are adversely affecting common people.

Days after Congress president post candidate Shashi Tharoor talked about an "uneven playing field" in polls, the party’s Central Election Authority chairman, Madhusudan Mistry, on Wednesday said that polling will be done through a secret ballot.

As the Congress’ 3,570 km Bharat Jodo Yatra completed 35 days and covered a distance of over 636 km by foot, the party is planning a mega rally in Karnataka’s Bellary district on October 15.
