T20 Series: Umran, Arshdeep Get Maiden Call-Ups

BENGALURU: BCCI on Sunday announced the T20 squad for the five-match series at home against South Africa at home. Senior cricketers such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested.

Umran Malik, who enthralled everyone with his supersonic pace in the IPL 2022, and Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh have received their maiden call-up. In the absence of veterans, KL Rahul will lead the team.

Dinesh Karthik, who has reeled off a string of blistering cameos for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing IPL, has also been inducted into the squad. The left-arm Kuldeep Yadav has also been rewarded for bowling splendidly in the cash-rich tournament.

The 5 T20Is between India and South Africa will be played between June 9 to 19.

The selectors also announced the squad for the rescheduled fifth Test against England which is slated to be played at Edgbaston from July 1 to 5.

Veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored four centuries for Sussex in the county circuit, has made a comeback to the Test team. KS Bharat is named as a back-up wicket-keeper to Rishabh Pant.

India are leading the five-match series 2-1 and a win or a draw will ensure a series victory for them.

It was in 2007, under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid, that India had won their last Test series in England.
