Outspoken Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker and Samajwadi Party leader Fahad Ahmad’s wedding reception was a lavish affair with the who’s who of the political world, mostly from the Opposition camp making a beeline to bless the couple.

Rahul Gandhi(Congress), Arvind Kejriwal (AAP), Shashi Tharoor (Congress), Akhilesh Yadav (SP), Sitaram Yechury (Left), Derek O’Brien(TMC) were in attendance among others.

Yadav, being Samajwadi supremo, was the star of the event.

The couple threw a grand wedding reception on March 16 at the Air Force Auditorium in Delhi,. Earlier this year, in a surprise move, they had tied the knot in a simple court wedding under the Special Marriage Act.

Rahul Gandhi too was given a very warm welcome by Swara Bhasker. He was seen standing alongside Swara, her parents, and Fahad. Swara’s mother is seen speaking animatedly with Rahul in the video, which has gone viral.

Last year, Swara had joined Rahul Gandhi in his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

With Congress, AAP, Left, TMC, and Samajwadi party leaders coming together for the reception, the photos from the event look like a gathering of Mahagathbandhan, a generic name used for the political front against the BJP. The Opposition has been unable to come together to form any kind of meaningful pre-poll coalition to counter the BJP, despite regional satraps calling on each other frequently.

The couple hosted a qawwali night for their politician friends and family.

Bhasker had extensively campaigned for Opposition leaders prior to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. She campaigned for fellow JNUite and Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who contested on a CPI ticket, and eventually lost. She also campaigned for AAP candidate Atishi Marlena, who lost to BJP’s Gautam Gambhir. Raghav Chadha, Digvijay Singh, and two other candidates she campaigned for also met the same fate.
