NEW DELHI: Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, took centre stage at the “Loktantra Bachao” rally by the INDIA Alliance parties, held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. Amidst the political fervour, she read a message from her husband, currently in judicial custody.

She said that Kejriwal is fighting for the motherland. “Your Arvind Kejriwal is a lion, they will not be able to keep him in jail for long. He lives in the hearts of crores of people because of the bravery and courage with which he is fighting for the country.

I feel that during India’s freedom struggle, he was a freedom fighter who was martyred while fighting for the country. This time also he has been sent to serve Bharat Mata,” Sunita Kejriwal added.

Reading out her husband’s message from jail, she outlined six guarantees aimed at transforming the nation’s socio-economic fabric. These include promises to ensure uninterrupted power supply, free electricity for the underprivileged, quality education for all, accessible healthcare through mohalla clinics and multi-speciality hospitals, fair MSP for farmers as per the Swaminathan report, and full statehood for Delhi, addressing the capital’s long-standing grievances.

“First, there will be no power cuts across the country. Second, electricity for the poor across the nation will be free. Third, every village will have a good school where children from all sections of society will get quality education. Fourth, every village will have a mohalla clinic, and every zilla will have a government multi-speciality hospital. Fifth, farmers will get a good minimum support price per the Swaminathan report. And sixth, the people of Delhi have been treated unfairly for many years. We will end this injustice. The people of Delhi will get statehood,” Sunita Kejriwal said. “We will fulfill all these guarantees in five years,” she pledged.

The rally also saw strong condemnation of the BJP’s alleged misuse of central agencies by opposition leaders. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti defended Kejriwal’s track record in governance, emphasizing his contributions to Delhi’s education and welfare.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the BJP over the electoral bonds issue, dubbing it the “Bhrasht Janata Party” and accusing it of corruption. In a counter-narrative, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi dismissed the rally as an attempt to safeguard dynastic political families, branding it as the “Parivar bachao, bhrashtachar chhupao” rally.
