Scindia shared the meeting on social media, emphasizing that the discussions were aimed at advancing “satellite-based last-mile access across India” and supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a digitally empowered nation.
He highlighted that bridging connectivity gaps is crucial for inclusive socio-economic development, particularly in regions with limited access to reliable internet.
Following the announcement, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk responded on social media, stating, “Looking forward to serving India with @Starlink!”, signaling the company’s commitment to expanding services in the Indian market.
Sources suggest Starlink has made progress on the regulatory front in India. The company has obtained key licenses, including the Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) license and permissions for VSAT and Category-A ISP services.
However, final approvals, including spectrum allocation, are still awaited before full-scale commercial operations can begin.
