J&K People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti trained her guns at the Centre, this time, shooting off the shoulders of the Dogras of Jammu.

Mehbooba Mufti raised doubts over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) intentions to undermine the prospects of the Dogra community, which has a significant presence in Jammu.

“Jammu’s demography has changed. Where are the Dogras? Why isn’t our Governor (LG) from the Dogra community? Why aren’t those at important posts like DG and SP from the Dogra community?” she said on Sunday, February 19.

She was speaking at an organisational meeting of district and zonal presidents of the Jammu region at party headquarters in Jammu.

Mufti also said that the BJP is concerned about itself, and not the people of Jammu. “I would like to tell the people of Jammu that if they believe that they (BJP) are after Muslims, then come out of this illusion. They don’t want to build any rashtra (nation), they just want to make BJP-rashtra,” said the former J&K Chief minister and JKPDP President Mehbooba Mufti.

Mehbooba also cast aspersions on the BJP, saying that they don’t belong to the Hindu community. “The one who stays with them is fine, but the one who does not stay with them, they will make his condition worse than that of Muslims. Those Hindus who think this is their community, it is not theirs but it is the Jan Sangh and RSS community. It is Godse’s community. This is the community that played no role in the freedom struggle, and licked the boots of Britishers,” she said.

Notably, her statements came after the demolition drive in the valley, wherein several houses were razed with bulldozers, was stopped. The action began in January of this year, with the objective of retrieving state land allegedly encroached on by influential people, including politicians, businessmen and senior state officials.

On February 8, Mehbooba Mufti was detained by police after she tried to take out a protest march in New Delhi against the anti-encroachment drive in J&K.
