Senior IAS officer Vijoy Kumar Singh assumes key role in Punjab govt

NEW DELHI: Senior IAS officer Vijoy Kumar Singh took charge as the Special Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday. The induction ceremony witnessed the presence of senior officers from the state government.

Chairing a meeting immediately after assuming office, Singh outlined his top priorities, emphasising the percolation of pro-people and development-oriented policies led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He articulated a commitment to providing a clean, efficient, effective, responsive, and transparent administration to the people, placing a major thrust on citizen-centric services.

Vijoy Kumar Singh, a seasoned 1990-batch IAS officer, urged officers to ensure the efficient implementation of state government schemes for the benefit of the people. He highlighted key sectors, including education, health, employment, and industrial development, as focal points of the government’s commitment. The Special Chief Secretary stressed the importance of time-bound delivery of citizen services and perfect coordination among civil, police, and other departments, particularly crucial for the border state.

Notably, Singh has a history of service to the nation, having worked in various capacities for both the state and Centre. His experience includes roles such as Joint Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles, and Secretary in the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare in the Ministry of Defence. He is known for his proactive and responsive approach towards public service.

This appointment comes following Singh’s repatriation to his parent Punjab cadre. He has been assigned this role, filling a vacancy that persisted since July this year. The three-year seniority of Singh to Chief Secretary Anurag Verma positions him strategically in the administration.
