NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim relief to suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma in the Prophet Mohammad comment case.

While issuing notices to all the states where FIRs have been registered against her, the bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala said, “This matter be listed on August 10, 2022. Copies of the main writ be also forwarded along with notice to respondents. Serve through dasti notice and through standing counsels. Meanwhile, as an interim measure, it is directed that no coercive action shall be taken against Nupur Sharma.”

In a fresh plea, Sharma has requested the court to quash all the FIRs registered against her in the Prophet Mohammad comment case or club all the FIRs and transfer them to Delhi.

Sharma’s counsel Senior Advocate Maninder Singh submitted in the court that there is a serious threat to her life as she is repeatedly getting threat calls and Ajmer Dargah Khadim has appealed to behead her.

He also submitted in the court that more FIRs were filed against Sharma and also West Bengal Police had issued a lookout circular against her.

It has been alleged that in a TV debate in June, then BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma had made offensive comments against Prophet Mohammad. A part of the clip was made viral by Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair.

Following it, there was a massive uproar against Nupur Sharma from within and outside the country. The BJP later suspended her from the party.

Hearing another plea by Sharma on July 1, the bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala had made very strong observations against Sharma. She had requested the court to club all the FIRs in the case and transfer them to Delhi. Sharma had withdrawn her petition following harsh observations by the court.
