NEW DELHI: An Instagram reel creator recently found himself in trouble after posting an obscene video filmed at the iconic India Gate. The reel, which quickly drew public criticism, featured Sachin Raj walking around an unknown woman while lip-syncing to suggestive lyrics from a song that included the phrase “Yehi Waali Loonga Nahi Manooga.” His actions drew immediate objections from people nearby, including women, but Raj reportedly continued filming, ignoring their discomfort.

In response to the incident, the Delhi Police took suo moto action, identifying Raj and filing an FIR against him. A senior official confirmed that he has been charged under the Indecent Representation of Women Act and sections 79 and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), signalling the authorities’ zero-tolerance stance toward public indecency. Raj’s video surfaced during a routine social media monitoring sweep, which the Delhi Police conducts to ensure public decorum.

Raj was subsequently summoned to the Kartavya Path Marg police station for questioning. During his interaction with the police, he expressed regret for his actions and issued a formal apology. He was strongly advised to consider the repercussions of his content and the offence it caused to the public. Following an extensive interrogation, Raj decided to delete the video and assured the police he would refrain from creating or posting similar content in the future.

The reel was initially posted on September 24, while the FIR was filed a month later, on October 26. Although Raj was briefly detained, he was released on bail, as his alleged offence fell within the Supreme Court’s guidelines for bail-eligible cases where the expected sentence is under seven years.

The Delhi Police has also formally reached out to Instagram, requesting an assessment of Raj’s account to determine if additional action is necessary. The platform’s response is awaited, and authorities may pursue further steps depending on Instagram’s feedback. This case underscores the growing scrutiny of social media behaviour and the consequences of sharing inappropriate content in public spaces.
