NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed solidarity and handed over a cheque worth Rs 1 crore for financial assistance to the family of Agniveer Jawan Ajay Kumar, who bravely sacrificed his life during a line of duty. The ceremony, held in Ramgarh Sardaran near Khanna, marked the state’s recognition of the heroic contribution made by the martyred soldier.

CM Mann conveyed his condolences to the grieving family, highlighting the irreparable loss suffered by the nation and the family due to the brave jawan’s martyrdom in a landmine blast in Jammu and Kashmir. Emphasising the importance of honouring such sacrifices, he stated that the financial assistance is a gesture of respect towards the supreme sacrifice made by Agniveer Ajay Kumar for the country.

Asserting the state government’s commitment to supporting the families of soldiers who lay down their lives for the nation, Mann underscored it as a bounden duty of the Punjab government. The financial aid, he mentioned, aligns with the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of soldiers and their families.

In addition to the financial assistance, he announced several development projects in the martyr’s honour. The government school in the village will be named after the brave soldier, and a playground/stadium will be constructed bearing his name. Furthermore, an Aam Aadmi Clinic will be established in the village, providing medical facilities in the memory of the martyred hero. Punjab CM also assured that one family member of the martyr will be offered a government job.

Expressing strong opposition to the Agniveer scheme, CM Mann deemed it an insult to the contributions of brave soldiers, characterising it as an exploitation of the youth. He called for an immediate rollback of the scheme, emphasising its humiliating nature and lack of financial security for the country’s youth after a brief period of service.

Addressing the insensitivity of those in power at the centre, Mann contrasted it with the respect and sympathy shown by the Punjab government towards the families of martyrs. He emphasised the historical role of Punjabis in obtaining and preserving freedom and underscored the value placed on the sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs.
