NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has set a new benchmark for crisis governance by personally leading flood relief operations and offering the highest compensation package in India to affected farmers and families.
After devastating floods hit large parts of Punjab, CM Mann went beyond announcements—he stepped onto the ground, visiting villages, markets, and farms to ensure that every victim received help directly. The ₹74 crore relief package, 2 lakh quintals of free wheat seeds, and ₹20,000 per acre compensation have revived hopes for thousands of farmers whose livelihoods were destroyed.
In a record-breaking achievement, compensation was transferred to farmers’ bank accounts within just 30 days, a move that eliminated years of bureaucratic delays and showcased the government’s commitment to transparency and efficiency.
CM Mann’s relief model goes beyond big farmers—farm labourers, small traders, and underprivileged families are also covered under the state’s inclusive relief policy. Farmers have even been permitted to sell sand and silt deposited on their fields by floods without any government approval till November 15, providing immediate income support.
The Mann government also increased the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) compensation to ₹40,000, offered financial aid for damaged houses and livestock losses, and announced a six-month waiver on loan instalments and interest for affected farmers.
To ensure accountability, special monitoring teams have been formed from the village level to the state headquarters. CM Mann personally reviewed relief work through social media updates and field inspections, reinforcing public trust through transparency.
The Chief Minister assured that government crop procurement will continue uninterrupted, with full and timely payments to farmers. “This is not politics—this is our responsibility,” Mann said, emphasizing that the government’s mission is to turn crisis into opportunity.
Observers say Punjab’s relief model has set an example for other states by combining quick decision-making, ground-level leadership, and people-first governance.
