Priyanka Gandhi sworn in as Wayanad MP in bypolls, wishes pour in

NEW DELHI: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Wayanad on Thursday, marking her debut in the Lok Sabha. The Congress leader, who secured a decisive victory in the Wayanad bypoll, took the oath in Hindi while holding a copy of the Constitution.

This momentous occasion saw three generations of the Gandhi family in Parliament, with Priyanka, her mother Sonia Gandhi, and her brother Rahul Gandhi all serving as elected representatives.

 

 

Following the ceremony, Priyanka was warmly congratulated by numerous Congress leaders. Rahul Gandhi expressed pride in his sister’s success, tweeting, “I know she will lead with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication.” Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also wished Priyanka well, praising her leadership and emphasizing that her voice in Parliament, particularly for women, would benefit the country.

 

 

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who met Priyanka in New Delhi, congratulated her on the significant victory in Wayanad. Shashi Tharoor also offered his wishes, calling it a pleasure to witness Priyanka’s swearing-in and wishing her success in representing the people of Wayanad.

Congress leaders from across India shared their excitement about Priyanka’s entry into Parliament. Rajeev Gowda tweeted, “Her presence in Lok Sabha will add tremendous strength to the party.” Shridhar Babu Duddilla, in his tweet, congratulated Priyanka for her emphatic victory, stating that her presence in Parliament would help raise important women’s issues and rights.

Priyanka’s victory in Wayanad was significant, as she secured over four lakh votes in a seat vacated by Rahul after he retained his other seat. As her debut in Parliament coincides with calls for an urgent discussion on the Wayanad landslide, Priyanka has expressed her commitment to upholding the Constitution and democracy, marking a new chapter in her political journey.
