NEW DELHI: An Indian couple, who managed to obtain citizenship of Bangladesh, were arrested for forging documents to take Asylum in France. Both were caught at IGI airport where they landed after staying in France for five years.

Police found the couple had gotten citizenship of Bangladesh based on forged documents.

The Immigration Department had found the couple and their daughter was carrying two passports – Indian and French – while checking and subsequently, handed them over to the Delhi Police for further investigations.

A case of forgery, cheating and passport act was registered and their further interrogations were on. Their daughter was handed over to the family members.

During interrogation, it has been found that Biswajit Das and his wife Rinku Das were natives of West Bengal’s Nadia district.

They also told that five years ago they went to Qatar from Bangladesh where they met with one Sandeep, who provided them with documents showing them to be citizens of Bangladesh. They paid Sandeep a sum of Rs 9 lakhs for the forged documents.

Later, based on this document they managed to procure French passports and started living there.

However, fate had other plans as the couple had to return to India following the demise of Rinku’s father in Bengal. On their return, the immigration department got suspicious and caught them after checking.
