NEW DELHI: Speaking at a gathering commemorating the fourth anniversary of the Delhi Riots in North East Delhi, Hindu religious leader and a prominent member of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Mahant Naval Kishore Das, advised people to take up sticks and stones for their defence. Addressing a crowd that included many who had lost loved ones during the riots, Kishore openly advocated, “Pick up sticks and stones for protection.”

Following his remarks, The New Indian approached him for clarification. Mahant Naval Kishore explained that given the delayed response time of the police during riots, people should take measures to protect themselves until law enforcement arrives.

The event was organised by the Federation of Resident Welfare Associations of Delhi, aiming to share the grief of families who lost their loved ones in the riots. Mahant Naval Kishore emphasised his intent to ensure the safety of people until the authorities intervene.

“In the face of an imminent threat, such as a gathering mob, people must act to safeguard themselves. Given the time it takes for law enforcement to reach the scene, immediate action is necessary,” he told TNI.

Sunil Bhardwaj, the organiser, highlighted that the annual programme serves as a platform to express solidarity with families affected by the riots. He asserted that the riots were part of a concerted effort to coerce the Hindu community into leaving the area.

A documentary, showing a deep-rooted conspiracy to tarnish India’s image on the international stage, particularly during the visit of former US President Donald Trump, was also screened during the event.
