New Delhi: In a high-level briefing, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), addressed the evolving nature of terrorist activities in recent years, emphasizing that innocent civilians have increasingly become targets.

Quoting a poignant phrase—”Pahalgam tak paap ka ye ghada bhar chuka tha” (the vessel of sin had been filled till Pahalgam)—he underscored the severity of the threat.

Speaking on India’s robust defence mechanisms, Lt. Gen. Ghai stated that targeting Indian airfields and logistical infrastructure would be an extremely difficult task for adversaries.

Drawing an analogy from cricket, he referenced Virat Kohli’s recent retirement from Test cricket and recalled the famous 1970s Ashes series, where Australian fast bowlers Jeff Thomson and Dennis Lillee dominated England. Quoting the iconic line—”Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if Thommo doesn’t get ya, Lillee must”—he hinted at India’s multi-layered defence grid, asserting that any breach would be met with an overwhelming response.

Echoing the sentiment, Air Marshal AK Bharti reassured the nation that all military bases and systems remain fully operational and prepared for any contingency. “Our forces are vigilant and ready to undertake any mission if the need arises,” he stated.

The statements come amid heightened security assessments and strategic discussions within the defence establishment, reinforcing India’s preparedness against emerging threats.
