In his conversation about Flow60, fitness innovator Mike Chang revealed why fun, simplicity, and playful “games” lie at the heart of his training philosophy — including the now-popular candle-breathing exercise.

Chang, who has spent more than two decades working with people across the fitness spectrum, said the biggest challenge in health is not technique — it’s motivation.

“I like to create games. I like to make exercise and practice fun,” Chang said. “People don’t like hard work. Trying to convince someone to do hard work is tough. But if you convince someone, ‘Hey, you can have some fun… let’s make it enjoyable,’ and they still gain the benefit of being healthier — that works.”

Rohan Dua, who had spent the previous day watching Chang’s videos closely, pointed out one exercise that stood out for its simplicity and humor — blowing out an imaginary candle.

Chang laughed as he explained the purpose behind the viral breathing drill.

“One of your exercises is very funny and hilarious,” Dua told him. “You want to teach us a breathing exercise, but you want us to blow the candle while sitting where we are.”

Chang said the playfulness is intentional — but the impact is real.

“With the candle game, you’re increasing lung capacity,” he said. “It’s like doing deep breathing, except you’re focusing on blowing out the candles.”

He said the idea is to make daily health habits sustainable and joyful rather than intimidating.

“People need to exercise every day. They need to take care of their health every day,” Chang said. “Making it enjoyable is the key.”

From simple breaths to playful lung-strengthening games, Chang’s Flow60 method continues to reframe fitness — proving that sometimes, one simple breath can change everything.
