NEW DELHI: At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, will embark on an official visit to India from March 16 to 20. This visit marks Luxon’s first trip to India in his current capacity and is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.

“Next week, I’ll be travelling to India with a senior business delegation. Strengthening New Zealand’s relationship with India is a key priority for my Government,” PM Christopher Luxon posted on X.



He also mentioned, “India is the fifth largest economy in the world and I am focused on increasing trade and business opportunities between our two countries and promoting New Zealand as an investment destination.”

 

“Trade is a key part of our plan to grow the economy to reduce the cost of living and create more jobs and higher incomes for all New Zealanders,” he added.

Prime Minister Luxon will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior officials, business leaders, media representatives, and members of the Indian diaspora community residing in New Zealand. 

 

The visit will include engagements in both New Delhi and Mumbai before his return to Wellington on March 20.

 

On March 17, Luxon will hold diplomatic talks with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi, discussing various aspects of India-New Zealand relations, including trade, economic cooperation, education, and defense partnerships. 

 

Following the talks, Prime Minister Modi will host a luncheon in honor of the visiting dignitary. Additionally, Luxon will meet with President Droupadi Murmu on the same day.

 

Participation in the 10th Raisina Dialogue

 

A key highlight of the visit will be Prime Minister Luxon’s participation as the Chief Guest at the inaugural session of the 10th Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi on March 17.

The Raisina Dialogue, India’s premier geopolitical and geoeconomic conference, will provide Luxon with a platform to share his perspectives on global challenges and the evolving geopolitical landscape. He will deliver the keynote address at the event, further solidifying New Zealand’s engagement in regional and global discussions.

 

Business Engagements in Mumbai

 

Following his engagements in New Delhi, Prime Minister Luxon will travel to Mumbai on March 19-20, where he is scheduled to meet with key Indian business leaders and representatives from various sectors. These discussions aim to enhance economic collaboration between India and New Zealand, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, and technology partnerships.

 

Strengthening India-New Zealand Relations

 

The visit underscores the deep-rooted and long-standing relationship between India and New Zealand. Both nations share a commitment to fostering closer economic ties, educational exchanges, cultural interactions, and strategic partnerships.

Luxon’s visit is expected to pave the way for new opportunities in trade, investment, and diplomatic collaboration, further strengthening the bond between the two countries.
