The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ongoing national executive meeting did not discuss the extension of the tenure of JP Nadda, who is scheduled to vacate the office of the party chief later this month.

On the conclusion of the first day of the executive meeting, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that no discussion took place about Nadda’s role, amid speculations that his three-year tenure as the party’s national president could be extended beyond January 20.

Speaking to media persons, Sitharaman said that the first day of the crucial meeting discussed political proposals. “There have been detailed discussions over nine points introduced in the resolution for this year’s NEC. The first discussion was on how opposition parties are using abusive language for attacking PM Modi Ji,” said Rajya Sabha MP.

Over a period of two days, senior BJP leaders are participating in brainstorming sessions with a focus on the upcoming assembly elections in nine states scheduled to take place later this year, seen as a semi-final to the 2024 general elections.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the national executive meeting after holding a mega roadshow in the national capital.

Addressing the media, the finance minister slammed Opposition parties for levelling “baseless allegations” against PM Modi. “Opposition continuously ran negative campaigns against BJP and used abusive language to attack PM on many issues like Pegasus, Rafael deal, Enforcement Directorate money laundering, Central Vista, Economic basis-reservations, Demonetization.”

“All these cases were fought in court and judgement has been in favour of the Central government. The Supreme Court crushed the Opposition’s negative campaigns and exposed them through legal responses,” she said.

Sitharaman also said that the BJP national executive thanked the prime minister for boosting India’s image on global platforms.

“India’s image on the global stage is at an all-time high – be it G20, SCO, or UN Security Council. The meeting also discussed how the PM’s image continues to dominate the world’s agenda.”

She further said, “The national executive also thanked PM Modi ji over the global acceptance of the G20 mantra under India’s presidency of One Earth, One Family & One Future. The national executive also thanked PM Modi for his initiative in UN reforms,” she said.
