Joint team of NIA and Bihar Police raided multiple locations associated with the PFI

PATNA, BIHAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Bihar have launched raids on alleged Popular Front of India (PFI) hideouts in Bihar. The operations are taking place in Darbhanga and Patna, with Phulwari Sharif being a primary target.

The joint teams have raided multiple locations associated with the PFI, aiming to gather crucial evidence in their ongoing investigation. The ATS is collaborating closely with the NIA to ensure the success of these operations.

In Darbhanga, the NIA team made an important breakthrough by apprehending a suspicious individual in the Chhotki Bazar area of the Behera police station. The person had previously resided in Patna and was taken into custody with the assistance of the local Darbhanga police.

Simultaneously, a house near the Phulwari Sharif building in the capital city of Patna was also raided.

The NIA and ATS are currently conducting their search based on Phulwari Patna police station case number 827, which pertains to the wanted accused, Mumtaz Ansari. The case is believed to be linked to the activities of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI).

Despite the extensive efforts carried out since the early hours of the morning, no significant findings have been reported thus far. The joint team continues to meticulously search for any leads and evidence that may shed light on the alleged involvement of the PFI in criminal activities.

It is worth noting that another NIA raid is also underway in Beheda, Darbhanga, adding to the scope of the ongoing operation.

During one of the raids, a bookshop located in the targeted area was thoroughly searched. Owned by Mohammad Qasmi, the shop offers a collection of Urdu and Arabic books. Mohammad MD Alam, a witness present during the raid, affirmed the innocence of Qasmi, emphasising that he is not involved in any illicit activities.

Mumtaz Ansari, the main accused in FIR No. 827/22 registered at the Phulwari Sharif police station in Patna, has been a prime target of the ongoing investigations. He hails from the Mahishi police station area in West Champaran district, Bihar.

Despite the NIA taking over the case, Ansari had successfully evaded capture. However, the Bihar ATS received valuable information regarding his whereabouts, leading them to Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. After ten days of surveillance in Bariyapallam, Ansari was apprehended while residing there, where he had been disguising his identity and working in a local factory. Following his arrest, he was handed over to the NIA for further questioning.
