NGT To Hear Petition Against Felling Of 2000 Trees In Doon

DEHRADUN: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) will hear a case regarding the felling of trees on the Sahastradhara Road in Dehradun of Uttarakhand.

The petition filed by Rajat Narayan, a resident of Delhi has been listed for hearing on July 26.

Protests inspired by the ‘Chipko Movement’ have been going on for some time now against the tree felling for the road widening project. The protestors can be seen hugging the trees to check the cutting of trees.

To date over 2000 trees approved by the state forest department for felling, of which around 500 have been cut down.

Earlier on June 22, Uttarakhand High Court allowed the felling of trees following which the work started in the second week of the month of July.
