YouTube has also confirmed that the same YPP criteria will apply to revenue sharing, meaning smaller creators still need to grow their audience to generate income from ad revenue.

NEW DELHI: Video streaming platform YouTube has announced changes to its eligibility criteria for the YouTube Partner Programme (YPP) that will make monetization more accessible for content creators. Additionally, YouTube will introduce new monetization features such as paid chat, tipping, channel memberships, and shopping options for smaller producers.

Under the revised rules, creators can monetize their channels if they meet the following requirements: have more than 500 subscribers, have uploaded three or more public videos in the past 90 days, and have accumulated either 3,000 watch hours in the past year or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.

These updated criterion are less stringent compared to the previous requirements, which demanded at least 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 watch hours in the previous year or 10 million views of Shorts in the preceding 90 days.

Initially, the new monetization guidelines will be implemented in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea, with plans to expand to other countries where the YPP is available. The availability of these changes in India has not been confirmed at the time of writing.

YouTube has also confirmed that the same YPP criteria will apply to revenue sharing, meaning smaller creators still need to grow their audience to generate income from ad revenue.

As per The Verge, the shopping affiliate scheme, previously accessible only through invitation to select creators, is now available to YPP participants in the United States with a minimum of 20,000 subscribers.

Earlier this year, YouTube launched Creator Music, a new marketplace that enables YPP creators in the United States to easily access an expanding library of music for use in their videos while retaining the ability to monetize their content.

These changes aim to provide more opportunities for creators to monetize their channels and generate revenue, offering a potential boost to aspiring content producers on the platform.
