NEW DELHI: Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), inaugurated the ‘Idea and Innovation Competition’ at the NCC Building in Safdarjung, New Delhi yesterday. This pioneering initiative, introduced during the NCC Republic Day Camp (RDC) 2025, equips cadets with essential tools and guidance to develop solutions for real-world challenges.
Prior to the competition, the NCC organised a series of workshops and contests across India. These events aim to inspire cadets and meet their aspirations, resulting in the generation of 256 innovative ideas and solutions. From these, 56 top innovations are shortlisted and showcased during the Republic Day Camp 2025. These innovations highlight the cadets’ creativity, teamwork, and commitment to nation-building.

The Idea and Innovation Competition emphasizes entrepreneurship, problem-solving, and the spirit of innovation among cadets. Such initiatives underscore the NCC’s dedication to nurturing future leaders and harnessing the potential of young minds to address pressing societal challenges. The primary objective is to align NCC training with contemporary aspects, providing exposure and opportunities to cadets, and preparing them for ‘Viksit Bharat’.
The National Cadet Corps, as the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces, plays a pivotal role in shaping disciplined and motivated youth. With a strength of over 1.3 million cadets, the NCC operates through a structured hierarchy comprising 17 Directorates, each headed by officers of Major General rank. These Directorates oversee various units and groups across the country, ensuring comprehensive training and development of cadets.

Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, serving as the Director General of NCC since September 27, 2021, continues to spearhead initiatives that align with the organization’s motto of ‘Unity and Discipline.’ Under his leadership, the NCC has undertaken various programs to integrate contemporary skills and knowledge into its training modules, ensuring cadets are well-prepared to contribute effectively to society.
The Republic Day Camp, an annual event, serves as a platform for cadets from different regions to come together, exchange ideas, and showcase their talents.
