Speaking in a conversation with Rohan Dua, Nawazuddin says the connection began the very first time he saw Anurag — a moment when he felt the director “looked at me from a different point of view.” That initial feeling, he says, proved accurate once they started working together.
“He has a very positive thing in his mind, in his heart and in his mind about me. I felt this when I saw him,” Nawazuddin says. “When I started doing films with him, I realized how intelligent he is, how educated he is, how much he studies.”
Nawazuddin stresses that their friendship is calm rather than dramatic — they do not talk constantly but share random conversations and deep professional trust. Asked if arguments ever arise between them, he laughs them off: “Do you fight? No, no, no. It can never happen. A lot of people tried to spread it, but they also know and I also know what we are. No one in the world can come and create a misunderstanding between us.”
Their partnership, Nawazuddin implies, rests on creative alignment and personal integrity: Anurag sees him differently from the industry stereotype, and Nawazuddin values Anurag’s seriousness and intellect as a filmmaker. The result is a lasting friendship that survives rumours and thrives on mutual admiration.
Their relationship offers a glimpse into the collaborations that shape contemporary Hindi cinema — friendships grounded in respect, curiosity, and a shared hunger for honest storytelling.
