Supriya Sule and Praful Patel were announced NCP working president at a ceremony where Ajit Pawar was also present.

NEW DELHI: In a surprising move, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar appointed Supriya Sule and Praful Patel as working presidents, disregarding his influential nephew Ajit Pawar.

Ajit currently holds the position of Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly and is considered a prominent figure and the second-in-command in the NCP. Many expected him to take this snub as an insult.

However, Ajit, known for his upfront and straightforward nature, swallowed his pride and extended congratulations to the newly appointed working presidents.

“MP Prafullabhai Patel, MP Supriyatai Sule, MP Sunil Tatkare, Dr. Yogananda Shastri, KK Sharma, PP Mohammad Faisal, Narendra Verma, Jitendra Awad, and Naseem Siddiqui have been given various important responsibilities within the party. Congratulations to all these colleagues!” he tweeted.

He further stated, “It is believed that all the colleagues will successfully carry out the responsibilities entrusted to them by the honorable Sharad Chandra Pawar.”

The announcement was made at the NCP’s 25th Foundation Day celebration in New Delhi, where Ajit was also present.

Addressing speculations about him joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ajit Pawar tweeted, “To my fellow party members, who have brought us this far, I will work diligently alongside all of you to further strengthen the NCP. Together, we will serve the nation for the greater good of our fellow citizens.”

In a dramatic turn of events in 2019, Ajit Pawar took oath as the deputy of the BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis, who was sworn in as the chief minister in an early morning ceremony at the Raj Bhavan. This occurred while the NCP, Congress, and Shiv Sena were in discussions to form a government after the breakdown of the Sena-BJP alliance.

However, the government could not survive for more than three days due to a lack of numbers. Since then, Ajit Pawar’s activities have been watched with suspicion. Nevertheless, he later served as the deputy chief minister when the three parties eventually formed an alliance government.
