MUMBAI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted raids at more than 20 places in Mumbai on the premises of suspected hawala operators allegedly linked to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Sleuths of the anti-terror agency have detained a person identified as Salim Qureshi aka Salim Fruit who is said to be working for gangster Chota Shakeel from his residence and also seized some documents, a NIA official said.

Qureshi is husband of Shakeel’s sister.

The agency searched premises of Ibrahim’s aides in western part of Mumbai like Bandra, Santacruz and Borivali and south Mumbai’s Nagpada and Parel areas.

The official said that several hawala operators and drug peddlers were found to be associated with Ibrahim following a case registered by the NIA in February this year.
