NEW DELHI: Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth led a high-level Indian delegation to Antananarivo from June 25 to 27, 2025, to participate in the 65th Independence Day celebrations of Madagascar and the founding anniversary of the Malagasy Armed Forces.

Representing India at the official commemorations, Sanjay Seth held a bilateral meeting with Madagascar’s Minister of Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Sahivelo Lala Monja Delphin. The two leaders discussed strengthening defence ties, with a focus on maritime security and capacity building.

During the visit, the Minister of State for Defence also called on the Prime Minister of Madagascar, Mr. Christian Ntsay, and conveyed warm greetings on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He reiterated India’s commitment to being a steadfast partner in Madagascar’s developmental journey.

Addressing the Indian diaspora at a reception hosted by the Indian Embassy in Antananarivo, Seth spoke about India’s ongoing economic transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and the growing global stature of the country.

India and Madagascar, as close neighbours in the Indian Ocean Region, share deep-rooted ties built on mutual respect and people-to-people connections. Seth’s visit reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Madagascar, in line with the vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
