Monkeypox Virus: Delhi Reports Third Case

NEW DELHI: Amid growing concern over the monkeypox virus, Delhi reported its third case on Tuesday. The patient, a man from Nigeria, is admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, sources said.

Incidentally, on Monday, another person from Nigeria was detected with the virus. He was also admitted to the LNJP hospital.

With the latest addition, the total number of Monkeypox virus cases reached eight in the country. The three patients in Delhi are reported to be fine and under strict observation of the experts.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has already declared the Monkeypox virus a global health emergency. Over 16,000 cases have been reported across the globe, so far.

Monkeypox is a viral zoonotic disease with similar symptoms to smallpox, with less clinical severity. It is caused by human transmission.
