Madhya Pradesh CM’s first big move, bans open sale of meat, loudspeakers at religious places

NEW DELHI: In one of his initial acts as the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav made a significant decision by imposing restrictions on the use of loudspeakers at religious sites.

This move, effective immediately, aligns closely with existing regulations specified in the Noise Control Act, the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules of 2000, as well as directives from the Supreme Court and High Court.

Citing the 2005 Supreme Court judgement that restricted loudspeaker and music system usage between 10 pm to 6 am, except during emergencies, due to the detrimental impact of noise pollution on public health, Yadav’s order also acknowledged the allowance for loudspeakers till midnight for 15 days a year during festivals.

To ensure compliance, specialised flying squads will be established across all districts to monitor and regulate noise levels at religious and public spaces. These squads will conduct routine checks, and any violations of the prescribed volume limits without prior authorisation will face strict investigation within a maximum of three days.

Additionally, Yadav announced stringent measures against the open sale of meat and eggs. A collaborative campaign involving the food department, police, and local urban bodies will enforce the ban on meat and fish sales from December 15 to 31.

Addressing the media after his first cabinet meeting, Yadav said, “Today we have taken several discussions during the first Cabinet meeting. We have raised the issue of meat sales in the open and have proposed to bring rules for this, in the Cabinet meeting today.

“It has also been decided to act against sale of meat and eggs in the open in accordance with the existing food safety rules related guidelines. The action will happen after proper public awareness measures,” Yadav said.

He also extended a welcoming stance towards devotees travelling to Ayodhya for the anticipated consecration of the Ram temple on January 22 affirming the Madhya Pradesh government’s support for their pilgrimage.

Mohan Yadav, a BJP MLA from Ujjain South, took the oath of office as the Chief Minister on December 13, administered by Governor Mangubhai Patel at Bhopal’s Lal Parade Ground. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, and other senior BJP leaders were in attendance.
