Lumpy Skin Disease: Raj CM Seeks Central Assistance

JAIPUR: Expressing concerns over lumpy skin disease spreading amongst animals in various districts of the state, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot assured that the state government is taking all possible measures to control the disease by taking awareness and sensitivity toward bovine animals.

He urged the Central Government to provide financial and necessary assistance to save the cow’s progeny and co-operate in effective control of the disease. Gehlot has appealed to the cattle owners of the state to be patient and to the Gaushala operators, public representatives and voluntary organisations to co-operate with the state government in the control and prevention of the disease.

Gehlot said that livestock is the lifeline of the farmers of Rajasthan. “The cows provide economic support to the cattle rearers in the event of famine. For centuries pastoralists have been fighting against adverse conditions on the strength of livestock. The State Government is committed to maintaining the importance of the valuable livestock wealth of the State, to make the cattle herders financially self-reliant by providing them with the means of employment along with their development and growth of livestock production,” said Gehlot.

The Chief Minister said that lumpy skin disease in bovine animals is spreading in many states of the country including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka, Kerala, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The disease has been confirmed in Jaisalmer, Jalore, Barmer, Pali, Sirohi, Nagaur, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jodhpur, Churu, Jaipur, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Udaipur, Ajmer and Bikaner districts of the state.

So far 1.21 lakh animals have been affected by this disease in the state. Of these, 42 thousand have been cured after the treatment of 94 thousand animals.

The Chief Minister informed that a total additional amount of ₹106 lakh amount has been released in addition to the amount allocated to all district level offices and multipurpose veterinary hospitals in the emergency budget earlier.

The Chief Minister said that in view of the emergency situation, medicines available in the drug stores of other districts have been sent to the affected districts. Approval of 30 additional vehicles has been issued for effective monitoring and treatment of sick animals. Nodal officers sent from Jaipur headquarters are continuously monitoring the affected areas by visiting the affected areas. For continuous monitoring of the disease, a control room has been set up in the affected districts as well as at the Jaipur headquarters.
