NEW DELHI: In a ceremony steeped in military tradition and honour, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command, Lieutenant General Dinesh Singh Rana, today assumed charge as the 23rd Colonel of the Regiment of Garhwal Rifles. He takes over the prestigious position from Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani.
The ceremonial baton was handed over at the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre in Lansdowne, amidst full military honours and the presence of officers, troops, and veterans. The event paid tribute to the valour, legacy, and distinguished service of the Garhwal Rifles, one of the Indian Army’s most celebrated infantry regiments, comprising 27 Battalions, including a Scouts Battalion.
Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani was lauded for his exemplary leadership and efforts to deepen regimental ties, uphold military professionalism, and foster the spirit of camaraderie that defines the Veer Garhwali ethos.
Assuming the mantle, Lt Gen DS Rana — a decorated officer known for his operational expertise and strategic leadership — reaffirmed his commitment to carrying forward the regiment’s proud legacy. He praised the courage and steadfast dedication of the regiment’s soldiers in their continued service to the nation.
As part of the proceedings, Lt Gen Rana received a Guard of Honour and paid homage at the War Memorial, saluting the supreme sacrifice of the regiment’s fallen heroes.
