NEW DELHI: Lovely Professional University (LPU) has announced the “Jai Jawan Scholarship”, a landmark initiative to provide free graduate and postgraduate education to over 22 lakh armed forces and paramilitary personnel and their families.
The announcement was made during a solemn ceremony held at the Constitution Club of India, attended by LPU Chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Pro-Chancellor Colonel Dr. Rashmi Mittal, and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu.
The program opened with the national anthem and a tribute video marking 50 years of the India-Pakistan War, honoring the valor and sacrifice of Indian soldiers.
“Honoring Sacrifices, Empowering Through Education”
In his address, Dr. Ashok Mittal paid tribute to the victims of the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, stating:
“Within 14 days of Pahalgam, India identified and destroyed terrorist hideouts with one-meter precision—without harming civilians.”
He further noted India’s firm response to nuclear threats from across the border, reaffirming India’s stance on national security.
“We don’t start wars—but if threatened, we will strike back. If you talk nuclear, we’ll destroy it inside your borders.”
Inspired by this spirit, the Jai Jawan Scholarship will support:
- 12.5 lakh Indian Army personnel
- 1.5 lakh Indian Air Force personnel
- 7,500 Indian Navy personnel
- Paramilitary forces including BSF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB
