Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP fields Annamalai from Sadhguru’s Coimbatore

NEW DELHI: Hours after spiritual guru Sadhguru, whose ashram is headquartered in Coimbatore, publicly thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making polite inquiries about his brain surgery the BJP announced its third list of candidates featuring BJP state chief Annamalai, indicating growing bond between the spiritual leader and the saffron party.

On Tuesday, Sadhguru, the founder of the Isha Foundation, shared that he has undergone emergency brain surgery in New Delhi. The 66-year-old guru, upon receiving well wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed gratitude, he responded, “Beloved Pradhan Mantriji, I should not be a Concern to you. You have a Nation to conduct. Overwhelmed by your concern, on my way to recovery. Dhanyavad (Thank you).”

According to the list released, Former Governor, Tamilisai Soundararajan will contest from Chennai South, and L. Murugan from Nilgiris. It also features Vinoj Selvam, C Narasimhan, AC Shanmugam, TR Paarivendhar, Nainar Nagendran, and Pon Radhakrishnan.

 

Annamalai’s candidacy against DMK’s Ganapathi P Raj Kumar, Nagendran against Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, and Murugan against A Raja are expected to intensify competition in these constituencies. Meanwhile, DMK and AIADMK are set for direct confrontations in nine Lok Sabha seats, including Chennai North, Chennai South, and Nilgiris.

Coimbatore, marked by the tragic 1998 bombings, holds symbolic significance for the party’s outreach efforts among Hindu voters.

Aside from these candidates, the list features prominent names like Vinoj P Selvam, A C Shanmugam, C Narasimhan, L Murugan, TR Paarivendhar, Nainar Nagendran, and Pon. Radhakrishnan.

This announcement follows the unveiling of the party’s earlier lists, which included a mix of seasoned politicians and fresh faces. With three former Chief Ministers, nine Union Ministers, and a significant representation of women, BJP aims to fortify its position ahead of the polls.

Elections to Tamil Nadu’s 39 Lok Sabha seats are scheduled for April 19, setting the stage for a riveting political showdown.
