MUMBAI: Krafton, the powerhouse behind BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India), sees India as a central pillar in its global strategy, according to Biswaroop Gooptu, Head of External Communications at Krafton India. Speaking to The New Indian at WAVES Summit 2025 in Mumbai, Gooptu emphasized India’s vast potential in the gaming and creative economy.
“Our flagship game BGMI continues to break records every year,” Gooptu said. “It’s the most popular mobile video game in the country, with over 200 million downloads — and that number is still rising.”

He praised the WAVES Summit as a timely initiative to unite government support with industry innovation. “This event provides a great platform for content creators and gamers. You have all the major stakeholders coming together here — government, industry, and creators — building something truly promising,” he noted.
India’s position as one of the largest mobile gaming populations in the world was a key theme. “There’s a huge opportunity here. If you’ve got ideas, people are willing to listen. This is the best place to be,” Gooptu added.
However, the road ahead isn’t without hurdles. Guptu pointed to the nascent stage of game publishing talent in India. “We’d love to see more games developed and published from India — whether for mobile, PC, or console. That ecosystem is still growing,” he explained.
Addressing concerns around gaming addiction and parental control, Gooptu reassured parents that Krafton has introduced safety features in BGMI. “We’ve built in systems requiring parental consent, screen-time restrictions, and limits on in-game purchases for minors,” he said. “These measures evolve constantly, and we’re committed to staying ahead of the curve.”
As India positions itself as a global creative hub under initiatives like WAVES 2025, Krafton’s message is clear: the future of gaming is here — and it’s just getting started.
