NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, along with the Indian cricket team, celebrated their T20 World Cup victory with a special dance at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. After returning from Barbados to Delhi, they had a memorable meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.

Many players had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to interact with PM Modi and take photos with him. Following the meeting, the team and support staff headed straight to Mumbai for a victory parade from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium.

The victory parade faced delays from traffic and heavy rain, but once it started, fans cheered wildly as the Indian team, riding on an open-top bus, slowly made their way to Wankhede Stadium. At Wankhede, there was a ceremony to honor the players, who also received a prize of ₹125 crores.

During the ceremony, Rohit Sharma thanked the fans who attended the parade, saying, “Mumbai always delivers. The massive crowd’s support proves they wanted this T20 World Cup win as much as we did.”

Virat Kohli praised Bumrah as a national treasure and reflected, “I couldn’t fully grasp the emotions of the seniors who cried that night after the 2011 World Cup victory, but now I understand.”

After receiving their honors, the players took a lap around the stadium, showing appreciation to the cheering fans. During this lap, Kohli and Rohit led their teammates in a special dance celebration, delighting the spectators.

Team India won the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa by seven runs. They defended a target of 177 runs successfully, limiting South Africa to 169/8 in their 20 overs. Hardik Pandya stood out with a three-wicket haul, while Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel took two wickets each, conceding 18 and 20 runs respectively.

Virat Kohli’s innings of 76 runs off 59 balls was pivotal in India reaching a competitive total of 176/7 in their 20 overs. Axar Patel contributed 47 runs and Shivam Dube added 27 runs, both playing crucial roles in the innings.
